The Aftermath The Hurricane Book 2 eBook RJ Prescott

I enjoyed the first book as well as this one, although I didn't think this 2nd one was all that necessary, I think it was wrapped up great in the first book. I would have preferred this book to be about Kieran and Marie and then I would love to see a book about Tommy and Evelyn. Not sure if anyone else picked up on this but in the first book the character Mac was one the best friends and there was no mention of a Liam but in the 2nd book there was no Mac and a best friend Liam. I am assuming that Mac and Liam are the same character and not sure why the name change from one book to the other. Would have also liked to have seen Liam/Mac come out publicly and although never mentioned I was thinking that his guy is Albie. Would have also preferred an epilogue a few years in the future, perhaps know if they had children, etc., but that is just my preference of an epilogue when they give you the look ahead and not just another chapter that is taking place in the same time frame or just a few months later. Overall, I highly recommend these 2 books and am looking forward to see what is next from this author.

The Aftermath The Hurricane Book 2 eBook RJ Prescott Reviews

I have looked forward to reading this book for *months* -- ever since getting completely hooked on The Hurricane (I've read it at least a dozen times, I'm pretty sure). But I was disappointed. There's nothing new in it -- just more of the same angst in Con's head. I had hoped that one or more relationships of the secondary characters (Kieran & Marie, maybe?) might develop, but there was none. Things with Con & Emily were wrapped up pretty well in the first book and could've (should've) been left at that. This whole book just felt redundant.

That said, if there's a third one, I'll check it out because I really like RJ Prescott's writing style.
After such an amazing debut, this was a tough act to follow. It feels like the first hundred pages were a struggle and they felt like filler with the same thing being rehashed over and over again. Cormac O'Connell is preparing for a HUGE fight right on the heels of the attack, kidnapping, and torture of his sweet wife Emily by her stepfather Frank. It makes sense that his head is messed up, but he still takes on the fight that could make him a world heavyweight champion. This means hours - from 5 a.m. until dark - training. He barely gets to see her...and she is still recuperating from her injuries, just seemed extremely harsh and insensitive from his trainer, Danny, who is supposed to love Emily like his daughter. This takes up the first third of the book and is my only gripe. That and the sex ban...the amount of heat went waaaaay down, stupid Irish superstition!

The second and last third of the book is where the magic happens and if you abandoned the book early, I highly recommend picking it back up again. The plot surrounding Emily and Frank was wonderfully written, nail biting, excruciating, and intense, and then we get to Las Vegas for the actual fight which was also harrowing. I had the Rocky theme song blaring in my head the whole time lol!

I love the author, she is one of my new favorites, so glad I finally picked the book up. She can successfully write TWO strong leads and covered O'Connell's perspective just as well as Emily's from The Hurricane. Her writing ability really shines with her secondary characters - I seriously need novels for Kieran, Tommy, and if she's brave enough to tackle Liam. I need him to have a happy ending as well and not just be tacked on as a side plot. I will definitely pick up any and all books from R.J. Prescott.
The Aftermath (The Hurricane #2) by RJ Prescott
4 stars!!!

“Bruises fade, torn skin scabs and heals but hate festers.”

This book follows on from where the Hurricane left off and while the Hurricane centred around Cormac and Emily’s blossoming relationship this book concentrates more on Cormac and his battles inside and outside the ring.

“…but we had each other. We had the fire and the drive to win, to succeed. I wasn’t alone in his. We were brothers, and we were bringing it to the effing table.”

I loved the dynamic with this series and these Irish guys have really melted a lot of hearts, especially mine. These guys really were a bunch of misfits but together they are family and there is nothing stronger than the bond and allegiance to one another than what they share. For them, they come as a package, you take one on, you take them all on and that is a mighty frightening experience.

“You made me a mixtape. Does that mean we’re going steady?”

I loved that this book gave us more of the guys as a group, how they bantered with one another, the pivotal roles they each played, the loyalty, the admiration and that great sense of camaraderie that only men that knew each other inside out could have. Danny had me in stitches in this book, he may remind me of the old guy in Rocky, but the one liners that come out his mouth were classic and brought some light hearted laughs to my reading experience. Even Father Pat had the same effect, everyone needs a priest like him fighting in their corner.

Starting to read this book The Hurricane came flooding back and in particular just how cute Cormac and Emily were as a couple, in fact these two were cuteness personified. There is something about seeing a grown man, a strong fighter, being reduced to a soft hearted teddy bear when in the presence of his wife and that is exactly how Cormac was around Emily. Cormac worshipped the ground she walked on, as did the guys too. Emily has had a tough life and it still is not over as you find out in this book, but she never lets it define her, she is strong when needed.

“There is a battle between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It’s anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy, and truth.”

“…which wolf wins?”

“…the one you feed.”

The dynamic that these two have as a couple is something to behold and RJ Prescott really brought this couple to life once again. The adoration and chemistry is palpable and I loved the determination in Cormac to be the man that he thought Emily deserved. He really matures in this book thinking more with his head than his fists, a sure sign of Emily’s influence.

“If anything happened to her, he might as well stick a knife in my mothereffing black heart. I was done.”

I loved the fight scenes in this book and the angst of the trial really gets those pages turning. Emily’s dad is still not finished; will he ever leave this couple alone? I have totally loved this series, perfectly balanced with wit and drama and a huge dose of chemistry and passion. There was nothing not to like.

“This was my tribute to the woman who’d changed my life. To the woman who’d changed me.”
