The Fiery Heart A Bloodlines Novel Richelle Mead Books

What a waste!! Ms. Mead has decided to take the low road and replace most of her story line with heaving breathing and orgasmic sighs. This has unfortunately turned this particular book into a "light" version of the Anita Blake: The Vampire Hunter series. Both authors apparently believe sex, in all of its attributes, sells better than having an actual plot, and they may be right! Sydney's witchy powers, which were considerable in her last book, has now been reduced to much of nothing. Sydney couldn't do much to one Strigoi during a planned attack. She couldn't handled three Moroi while she was at the Moroi Court and last but most damming, her and a dhampir together couldn't take out seven humans!! Are you kidding me!! It would have been better to have turned Sydney into a Strigoi than what Ms. Mead did to her. Sydney was an Alchemist with a heart and now she's nothing more than a 14 year old with hormonal issues. Some 400 pages of "Love phones" and "car sex" may make work for some but not me. At the end, Sydney was left in the dark and so was I.

The Fiery Heart A Bloodlines Novel Richelle Mead Books Reviews

Warning I ramble a lot

Since I "met" Adrian Ivashkov in Frosbite second book from the Vampire Academy series, I've had a great inclination towards his character, I'm impartial when it comes to him and this series, he's my bias ... Yes, I know that the female lead is Sydney, but it was not until the end of the previous book and that she finally came to her senses and accept her feelings for Adrian.

And you might wonder... if I say that I'm super fan of this series, why I haven't read The Fiery Heart sooner? .... well, when I pre-ordered this book from Book Depository, it didn't arrived immediately (as you know for those who had order books there) and when I finally got it, there were several reviews published and some were commenting that this book ended in a super-mega cliffhanger, so I decided to wait until Silver Shadows come out and one thing led to another and The Ruby Circle I already was published, so now I'll read them almost back to back.

The Fiery Heart, takes place nearly a month after the events in the previous book and Sydney and Adrian are finally are a couple, which would be wonderful, if it were not for the very limited time they have to see each other and due that she's an alchemist and he's a Moroi, their relationship is taboo, so they must keep it a secret from everyone and pretend when they are with others that everything is normal, the only one that knows about their relationship is Jill, because of the connection to Adrian (she's shadow kiss). They also need to be more discreet and watch their backs because Sydney's younger sister and alchemist fellow comes to live with her so she must share her room with her, which makes everything more difficult. Zoe comes with all the normal fears and prejudices of the alchemists, which prompts her to be extra careful and not appear very friendly with Adrian, Jill, Eddie, Angeline and Neil, because the alchemists could punished her if they discovered that she's being friendly with the Moroi or dhampirs .

The story is told from alternating points of view of Adrian and Sydney, which I loved! because I could finally see how the use of spirit affects Adrian and which is the backwash for when he overuse spirit, how slowly is deteriorating his mental health.

There are several very interesting plots that thanks to the we get to see Rose, Dimitri, Lisa and Christian, and we can take a peek to their lives.

I loved The Fiery Heart!! so far it's my favorite of the series, the romance was cute, I can see how Sydney is a very good influence on Adrian. Also it has some action scenes (not as many as in Vampire Academy, but I can't complain). And that ENDING!! ..... it's super-mega cliffhanger (no!!, why?!), and now that I have Silver Shadows in my hands I don't have to wait long to read it. This is a book highly satisfactory for fans of the Bloodlines series (but that ending! ...).
I've been excited to get my hands on this for several days - even to the point where I almost blew off work just to read it! While not quite as good as the last, the 'Fiery heart' was a great followup to the bloodlines books. We even get a cameo from Rose, Lissa and Christian!

The 'Fiery Heart' sees Sydney and Adrian's relationship enter the next level and things seem to be going right for a change. Sydney begins to make a breakthrough discovery that could prove invaluable for Alchemist defectors. Even her relationship with her sister Zoe is improving. Yet family ties once again becomes strained when Sydney's Mother files for a divorce from her Father, and she suddenly finds herself in the middle of a bitter custody battle over Zoe.

The fourth installment is a little unique because we get to see the inner workings of two beloved characters rather than one - that of Adrian and Sydney. It was an interesting risk Mead took and I admit I was a little dubious. So many authors try to take that path and fail. An enjoyable series that started out with a single first-person narrator could suddenly turn into a confusing and disconnected mess merely because it's author decides to tell the story from the viewpoints of several characters rather than one.

I didn't feel that was the case here. For the most part I thought the scenes transitioned well between the two characters and only on a few occasions did I feel disconnected from the Bloodlines universe when the POV shifted from Adrian to Sydney and vice versa. On the plus side, this made the romance even more of a guilty pleasure - because we get to see the romance through the eyes of Adrian! Fans who were disappointed with the progression of the romance in previous installments won't be in the 'Fiery Heart' as their relationship enters the next level (plenty of scenes to satisfy the fangirl in me! haha).

As a little side note I also appreciated Mead bringing up a subject that is to often simply glossed over or not exactly named for what it is. I am, of course, speaking of mental health issues. After all, how often does the brooding stalker vampire hero or the kick-ass female heroine with insecurity issues get diagnosed with something such as bipolar disorder or anxiety? It was nice change to see that subject addressed in the form of Adrian, and it brings a touch of realism to a magical world.

If there was one tiny issue I had about the plot - something also brought up by another reviewer about the third book - it was that the novel quickly becomes bogged down by the sheer number of romantic relationships going on. Jill likes Eddie but pretends to like Neal. Angeline like Trey but pretends to like Neal. Trey and Eddie pretend not to like anybody. I think that's how it went. I found it all a bit confusing towards the end. Heck, even Ms. Terwilliger got a guy!

Beyond that one, tiny thing, the 'Fiery Heart is a great addition to the series. I'm especially eager to read the next book after that cliffhanger!
