My Junior Year of Loathing School Dayz Book 2 eBook Jennifer DiGiovanni
The second book in the School Dayz series, this is my favorite so far. Melinda, Sadie's romantic rival from book one, is a smart, serious girl with goals. When her mom remarries, she moves into a virtual mansion where she's forced to adjust to a different way of life. Her relocation also puts her squarely in the path of mysterious Connor of the Woods, a boy she meets lurking in the forested area behind her stepfather's estate. Her best friend, Becca, begins dating Will, who pushes her to double-date his buddy, Ty. Ty is tall, cute, normal. Connor is anything but normal, but Melinda is inescapably drawn to him, setting up a showdown with her emotions. Will she choose Ty and security, or Connor and all the drama that surrounds him?Plot
There is a bit of a mystery woven into the plot. Well, a couple of mysteries, actually. One being the secret Connor is hiding and the other is what happened behind the big wall of the old Westerly Estate. Some people say the old house is haunted, and Melinda is determined to find out what really happened. But the primary plot is the romance between Melinda, Ty, and Connor. It's not a traditional love triangle, so if those turn you off, don't discount this book just yet. It's a great story, with Jennifer DiGiovanni's signature quirky, funny characters, and lots of super sweet moments.
Characters
Once again, the author creates a cast of unique characters that are easy to love. Melinda is serious and driven with an incredible soft spot in her heart. Connor is an enigma until we find out his whole story, but he never comes across as anything other than fully developed. Will, Ty, Becca, the estate's caretaker, Jack, and Melinda's family all support the story. Jack in particular is an intriguing character who adds a lot to the story.
Top things I LOVED About My Junior Year of Loathing
1. The mystery. It was incorporated really well into the main plot.
2. Jack. The gruff landscaper provides some great moments with both Melinda and Connor.
3. Melinda. I love seeing more of her in this installment. She wasn't my favorite person in My Senior Year of Awesome, but after getting her story and her point of view, I adore her.
4. Connor. The boy from the woods is strong, mysterious, caring, and more than a little hot.
5. Will. As the arrogant football player dating Melinda's best friend, he provides some of the best comic moments.
Bottom Line
My favorite book in the series so far, includes great romance, a mystery, and fantastic characters.

My Junior Year of Loathing School Dayz Book 2 eBook Jennifer DiGiovanni Reviews
Wow, this book took me by surprise. I expected this book to be similar to "My Senior Year of Awesome" the first one in the series, but I was pleasantly surprised that it was completely different. While I enjoyed the first book, this was a whole lot better, and I really couldn't put it down. I loved Connor and Melinda's relationship, and how it evolved from not-really-friends to something else. The mystery of Connor's background made this story a lot darker than the first, and at times I felt really sorry for him for everything he had to go through, but the ending made up for all of that. There were a lot of very cute moments, and the interactions between Connor and Melissa were always fun to read, since you never knew what to expect from him and his seemingly ever-changing moods.
Overall a great story, I would definitely read it again!
3.5/5
My Junior Year of Loathing is the second book in the young adult School Dayz series by Jennifer DiGiovanni. Each of the books can be read as standalones. They each focus on a different couple, and as you can tell from the titles, this book focuses on a younger couple than the one in My Senior Year of Awesome. I feel confident that you can pick up this book and not be missing anything if you had not yet read the first book. However; the first book in the series was pretty cute, so I would still recommend you check that one out as well.
I really liked both the couple and the concept of My Junior Year of Loathing. Melinda and Conner are a n interesting couple. Melinda is your typical straight laced type A personality student. She needs her resume to be s padded as possible and all of the stress of school makes her a bit tightly wound. Conner couldn’t be more different, but not in the way you might think. Conner is super mysterious. He kind of just shows up and disappears in the story at various points. At first, I found this to be super strange but as the mystery aspect of the story unfolds, which takes a bit of time by the way to pick up speed, it all went together.
Which brings me to what I really liked about My Junior Year of Loathing. I loved that it was so very different than the first book in the series. This one is a bit of romance and a bit of mystery all mashed together. I loved it. It is a quick read that turned out to be something totally different than I was expecting. And that is always a pleasant surprise.
Bottom line My Junior Year of Loathing is a quick read with a nice little mystery, and some romance, woven in. Read it whether you have read My Senior Year of Awesome or not. I think it is worth a read. The School Dayz series is turning out to be a complete surprise. I have no idea what the next book will bring, but I do know one thing- I can’t wait to find out.
*Disclaimer- I got a copy of this book for free from the publisher or author.
4.5 stars I enjoyed this YA romance a lot! There's a mysterious boy and and an abandoned estate with a mysterious history. But that's not too much for over achiever Melinda Banner. Besides her work on various school committees and being editor of the school newspaper and just plain school work, Melinda can't stop thinking about mystery boy Connor or the Westerly estate. So of course she investigates.
I found the mystery elements in this story compelling and page-turning. I was right there with Melinda as she searched for answers. The romance elements weren't too shabby either. ;-)
I marked off half a star because there were one or two scenes I would've liked to see. But I can't really talk about that because... spoilers. A good book!
