On the way to the B&B he intends to spend his holiday in, Martin rescues a wildcat from a snare. His reward is a bunch of scratches from the frightened animal, and a trip to the local doctor's office. There's something odd about the town Martin is staying in, however, and about the hot Irishman Martin meets. Perhaps Martin's spur-of-the-moment decision to save the wildcat will have a lot more serious consequences than he could ever have imagined...
Snared is an interesting look at shapeshifters and the consequences of meddling in their affairs. Well-meaning Martin stumbles into a situation that's way more than he can handle. In the course of a couple of days, he's injured himself, met an incredibly sexy and mysterious Irishman named Calum, and gotten himself into the midst of a huge secret. Calum was a fascinating character. He alternately turned on the seduction and pulled back, confusing poor Martin all the more. The other characters, citizens of the strange town, were standoffish and even creepy. The setting was well done, adding to the claustrophobic and sinister atmosphere. I would have liked Martin and Calum's relationship to have a bit longer to develop. The ending seemed a bit too perfect too, given the upheaval of the previous events. Still, Snared kept me reading to see what would happen next, and it gave a bit of a twist on the usual shifter story.

Good price for the short story. I'm a fan of JL Merrow and have loved reading her and hearing her unique voice. Snared isn't my favorite but still and good enjoyable read fast read at a great price.
